The Job of a Representative
I believe representatives should be guided by evidence, reason, and the long-term interests of the communities they serve. When there is broad consensus about a bill, I will vote accordingly even if I personally disagree. That is the job of a representative as the people’s delegate. However, there are many times when there is no clear consensus. That is the time for a representative to lead. In those cases, reason will be my guide. I will make my decisions based on the traditional guiding principles shared by the Democratic party and America, on formal research and evidence, and multiple different perspectives, rather than relying on partisan assumptions or ideology.
